Reacting to prevailing global situation that has taken its toll in national economy, the Federal Government of Nigeria is not leaving any stone unturned to fix critical sector of the economy.
To this end, President Mohammadu Buhari declared that Nigeria will strengthen its position as a regional leader in the oil and gas industry and his administration will spare no effort in ensuring maximum benefits from the nation huge natural resources.
The National Oil and Gas Excellence Centre (NOGEC) building was inaugurated in Lagos.
The Director of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Engr. Sarki Auwalu, said at the inauguration that, “National Oil and Gas Excellence Centre encompasses industry focus programme that will drive strategic mediation in operation, skills and competence development, use of big data, internet of things and artificial intelligence for decision making. Deployment of proven technology for secondary and tertiary oil recovery as well as coordinated response for emergency.”
The president pledged that Federal Government will continue to leverage on oil and gas development to pursue economic diversification across all sectors.
Buhari was of the view that, “the center opens a research opportunity with Nigeria petroleum industry in terms of investment, cost reduction, safety in operations and capacity development. The establishment of the national oil and gas excellence centre aligns with the administration commitment to foster stability, growth and sustainability of the Nigeria’s oil and gas industry consistently with economic development.”
In his remark, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva explained that the integrated centre encompasses five units designed to comprehensively cover key areas of the industry while enhancing safety value and cost efficiency.
“NOGEC has been careful design to support the achievement of the ministerial priorities significant among which are cost reduction increase in production and value optimization in the industry.
The initiative will be for the benefit of the oil industry, and Nigerians in general to the glory of God.”
The excellence centre has a research and surveillance command and control centre, national improve oil recovery, oil and gas dispute resolutions, oil and gas competent and development centre and integrated data mining and analytical centre all geared towards safety, value and cost efficiency.
