…NOGOF to build and support development of local capacities and capabilities in the oil industry.

…Opportunities for thousands of key players in oil and gas sector to help grow business for quick decision making.

In 2019, the Nigerian Content Development Monitoring Board (NCDMB) invested $100 million in oil and gas industry. This was disclosed at a press conference held by the Board to showcase opportunities going forward for the industry.

Speaking at a press briefing in anticipation of the upcoming Nigeria Oil and Gas Opportunities Fair 2021 (NOGOF). Engr. Simbi Wabote, Executive Secretary (ES) of NCDMB made it known that NOGOF is a biennial event organised by NCDMB with core intention of showcasing opportunities that are likely to emerge from short to medium term plans. It is an opportunity to portray activities of operators and project proposals operating in the upstream, midstream and downstream sector of the Nigerian oil and gas industry.

NCDMB is set to host the 2021 edition from 25th to 26th of May 2021. The event, themed “Leveraging Opportunities and Synergies for Post Pandemic Recovery of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry” is programmed to take place virtually, a move that is consistent with the covid-19 guidelines.

The ES said it is mandated by law in the NOGIC Act and section of the NCCF where the Board is to provide a platform for future opportunities. NOGOF paves way for Nigerian vendors to prepare in anticipation because the challenges they always had is that when projects and opportunities emerge, they are not given desired feasibility in order to deliver.

Engr. Wabote was of the view that if people have prior information they will engage their risk and do analysis either 50 50 or 60 40 to venture on those projects hence they begin to build their capacity and opportunity to take inherent advantages.

Mostly, NOGOF is aligned with key thoughts of the NOGIC Act 2010 which has charged NCDMB to build and support development of local capacities and capabilities in the sector to foster institutional collaboration, maximizing participation of Nigerians in oil and gas activities linking oil sector with other sectors of the economy for utilization of Nigeria resources among others.

The 2021 NOGOF is the third edition. The first edition was hosted in Akwa Ibom while the second was in Bayelsa state.

Notwithstanding, the 2021 version will be the first virtual edition. The ES explained to journalists that the Board anticipated that until the Covid-19 challenge is dealt with it will continue to use virtual platforms to hold workshops.

“Most importantly, while we continue to struggle with the challenges of Covid-19, we must also give hope to Nigerians that there are opportunities they should look at for. But if we all bury our heads with regards to the challenges of Covid-19, we will find nothing that we can do again.

“So, we must as NCDMB continuously give hope to Nigerians and continue to show them that even when you have a pandemic like this, there is opportunity for people to look out for. There is a saying that behind every disaster, there is an opportunity and behind every dark cloud, there is a silver lining.

“We must continue to show that things can be done. For instance throughout this Covid period, we continuously produce oil. There has been no report of lack of production, it has continued. The only reason why oil is being produced at the current level is because of OPEC curtailment, if not there are potentials for more production.

“If production is going on well, who are the people dealing with these production? What are the activities sustaining these production? With all the Covid guidelines and rules nobody has heard that when Covid started we shut down our platforms and production, it has never happened.

“One of it is how local content has fared over the years, I recall in those days when we had some of the Niger Delta agitations, most of the International Oil Companies (IOCs) left and we have to shut down most of our oil wells because there were no capacity or capability to produce them after those IOCs had left.”

Surprisingly, the ES added that with the local content in oil and gas sector, the country has been able to grow capacity to continuously produce despite pandemic. The ES pointed out that “the pandemic is an enemy you don’t even see or know how it looks like, all you see are things on television.” Production continues hence there are lots of opportunities despite Covid-19 challenges.

The first agenda includes: technical opportunity session for various stakeholders and it will enable them to talk to delegates. There will be awards ceremony in recognition of distinguished industry players.
