Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly

-By Victoria Opeyemi

Shortly after Rivers State Government started collection of Value Added Tax (VAT) following an order from a High Court in Port Harcourt, the Lagos State House of Assembly has also passed VAT bill into law.

Speaker Mudashiru Obasa directed the Acting Clerk of the Assembly, Olalekan Onafeko, to transmit a clean copy to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for assent.

The House also passed the anti-open grazing bill.

The two bills were passed after a unanimous vote by the lawmakers at a sitting where they were read the third time.

It will be recalled that the southern governors met recently in Lagos where they ban open grazing and vowed to pass it into law.

Although the Myetti Allah cattle breeders association has kicked against the policy urging the National Assembly to stop the southern governors from passing into law the anti-grazing bill objecting that it will infringe the rights of its members adding that the governors were ill-advised.
