No doubt Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL, is one of the oil companies that has thrived in the country owing to its numerous contributions aside from oil production to other aspects of social investment and human capital development.
CNL was a guest at the National Association of Energy Correspondents, NAEC, annual conference and awards and it played a major role as one of the sponsors of the event that was attended by the crème de crème of energy correspondents and editors.
Acting Manager Communication representing General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs of CNL, Esimaje Brikinn, Victor Anyaegbudike in his remarks noted that the management of NNPC/Chevron Joint Venture were delighted about the event.
Anyaegbudike stated further that fossil fuels particularly oil and gas continue to be world leading source of energy. The global energy landscape has experienced substantial changes over the past twenty-five years with much lighter changes particularly in the oil and gas sector foreseeing in the future.
He said the forecast in the energy sector continues to grow significantly and “we believe that in 2040 there should be significant growth by lightly by fossil fuel.”
The Acting Communication Manager explained thus: “Our vision in Chevron is to be the global energy company most admired for its people partnership and performance. People come first because it is the people that drive values that we create.”
He said Chevron remains committed to supporting programmes by professional body such as NAEC and the company has demonstrated it in many trainings it has undertaken on behalf of journalists that are operating in the energy and gas sector.
According to Anyaegbudike, one of these initiatives is the Advance Writing and Reporting Skills, AWARES, which is currently ongoing at the Pan Atlantic University and about 100 journalists have been trained in partnership with the university, a programme that runs for four months and ensure that all gamut of journalism is represented in that training.
“Over the years, we have continued to demonstrate our commitment to capacity building and Nigerian content development. We have a deep passion for Nigerian content development and we have demonstrated this in most of our major capital project which we are all aware about, Anyaegbudike enthused.”
He made it known that through the company’s Global Memorandum of Understanding, GMoU, it is facilitating a community driven participating partnership for community development and the GMoU with coastal of communities in the Niger Delta has continued to bring benefits in terms of infrastructural development by building peace for the communities around its areas of operations.
Another major achievement of Chevron apart from oil exploration, is that it has been a major player in the gas sector and has continued to record major success in that direction. For instance, the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, gave stunning figures that in 2014 to 2017, Chevron contributed 41% of the domestic gas that was supplied in Nigeria.
The company has a long commitment to Nigeria and has been making significant investment in the country for more than fifty years and it will continue to enhance it.
The Acting Communication Manager asserted that if right policies are put in place, Nigeria will continue to develop its potential in the oil and gas sector and even greater benefit will be derived for its people.
