80-Year-Old US President Joe Biden, Announces Re-Election Bid

Joe Biden, President of the United States of America

President Joe Biden, on Tuesday announced that he is seeking re-election in the 2024 presidential contest, to make a return to the White House “to finish the job.”

“Every generation has a moment where they have had to stand up for democracy. To stand up for their fundamental freedoms,” Biden, 80 wrote on Twitter, along with a video.

“I believe this is ours. That’s why I’m running for re-election as president of the United States. Join us. Let’s finish the job.”

If Biden won a second term, he would extend his streak as the oldest person to sit in the Oval Office: He would be 82 on Inauguration Day 2025.

His administration has focused on strengthening America’s national security workforce as well as empowering the US middle class.

Biden’s disclosure is coming almost a year his predecessor, Donald Trump, officially started his presidential campaign under the Republican party.

“When I ran for president four years ago, I said we are in a battle for the soul of America. And we still are. The question we are facing is whether in the years ahead we have more freedom or less freedom. More rights or fewer,” he said, adding, “This is not a time to be complacent. That’s why I’m running for re-election.”

The launch is an effort to position Biden as the nation’s best hope to defeat a Republican opponent and cement his administration’s successes heading into 2024.
