Mrs. Anita Nana Okuribido
The president of Women in Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria and national coordinator of the Association of Nigerian Women Business Network, Anita Nana Okuribido, submitted that Future Energy Nigeria (FES) is a rallying point for investors and stakeholders in the power sector.
FES provides opportunity to network and discuss priority issues that affect the growing economy of Nigeria.
On recapitalization and investments, she said the high costs of renewable energy components is expensive. “We really need to look into how we can make the common man and poor Nigerians to be able to afford electricity through renewable energy components because there is no way we can do away with renewable energy.”
According to her, the United Nations has made it known that in the millennium fossil fuel will be extinct and when fossil fuel that the country depends on goes extinct, it means the only source of power would be renewable energy value chain which is the best for the country.
Presently, there is global warming and it is caused by using fossil fuels and diesel. Diesel and fossil fuels emit carbon monoxide Sulphur which is injurious to health. Okuribido said, unfortunately, Africa and Nigeria as a country are not looking towards that direction, “what they want is cheap form of electricity and government is not creating enabling environment for the country to resort to renewable energy value chain.”
She stated further that stakeholders particularly the banks and manufacturers “must really go into reducing cost no matter what because it is not a profit-making venture and we all have to become social entrepreneurs, everybody and all stakeholders.”
“Whatever it is in the value chain, we must think of how we all become social entrepreneurs and how we become local grass root so that we would be able to activate the sustainable development goals of item 7 which is access to affordable clean energy for all by 2030, she added.”
This can be feasible depending on how every stakeholder including the end users will take the project seriously for the country to attain “energy efficient, energy sufficient and energy independent.”
