…England hope dashed after two consecutive finals
Spain on Sunday night won the European Championship following a final 2-1 victory against England.
Spain’s win ensured that they won the tournament a record fourth time while England is yet to win the trophy.
It was England consecutive lose at the final when it met with Italy in 2022.
Real Sociedad striker Mikel Oyarzabal turned home in the 86th minute after Nico Williams sent Spain ahead early in the second half. Earlier, England substitute Cole Palmer pulled the Three Lions level.
England almost equalised at the death but Dani Olmo headed Marc Guehi’s effort off the line to safety.
Spain paraded a mix of advanced and youngsters who went all the way in the tournament, winning seven matches in all.
The final result means England have lost the European Championship finals back-to-back.
There was no third place play or winner as the organisers had abolished the position.
