Chairman of the Association of Energy Correspondents of Nigeria (NAEC), Ugo Amadi, made it known that the 2024 conference of the Association is expected to avail participants and critical stakeholders in the Nigeria energy sector the opportunity to have robust discussion, share knowledge and valuable insights in the growing conversation around the burning issues in the energy sector at different levels.

According to the NAEC Chairman, “this year’s conference theme, ‘Gas as Energy Transition Fuel: “Navigating Nigeria’s Trilemma of Finance, Energy Security, and International Politics”, aims to shape conversation in the sector, with a view to chatting a more sustainable development path for the energy sector in Nigeria.

“As we are all aware, the energy sector is passing through difficult challenges in the country, hence a gathering such as this becomes imperative in our collective quest to make positive changes in the oil & gas, power, and renewable energy sectors of the economy.”

Amadi stated further that as an association, NAEC is optimistic that for Nigeria to navigate the energy trilemma, the country needs to adopt a strategic approach that balances energy security, financial sustainability, and environmental considerations. This can be achieved in a number of ways including diversification of energy sources; investing in renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

The NAEC Chairman said the country can also achieve the objective by investing in energy efficiency: improving energy efficiency in industries and households to reduce energy consumption.

Infrastructure development is cardinal, hence there is urgent need to upgrade existing infrastructure to support the transition to cleaner energy sources.

“By adopting a balanced approach, Nigeria can ensure a successful energy transition that meets its energy needs while addressing financial and environmental concerns.”

“It is our belief that as we gather here this morning to add our voices to the various areas of discussions, participants will bring their wealth of experience to bear in finding the much desired solutions to the challenges.”

Amadi asserted that every discussion at the conference will help shape future of Nigeria’s energy sector in a manner that would help stakeholders, both public and private sector, to have a workable template required to drive development in the energy sector in the overall interest of the country.

He told participants that the gathering of this year’s event is another critical opportunity to contribute their own quota towards finding solutions to the problems of the sector.
