As the world prepares to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8, Continental Hotels Group is leading the way in recognizing the contributions of women in the hospitality industry. According to Cuthberga Onuoha, Director of Rooms at Lagos Continental Hotel, the hotel is committed to empowering women and providing them with opportunities to grow and develop in their careers.

Speaking ahead of the International Women’s Day celebration, Onuoha praised the hotel’s efforts in promoting gender equality. “Continental Hotels Group has created opportunities for women to grow and develop in their careers,” she said. “The group has given opportunities to go off from work, you can always take your leave. It also impacts positively on my mental health.”

Onuoha emphasized the importance of women preparing themselves for leadership roles. “Women need to prepare ahead for top positions in the hospitality industry,” she said. “They should not feel that as a woman, the role has to be handed over to me, you have to work for it, even more than the men.”

She noted that women should be passionate about their careers and work hard to achieve their goals. “Everyone should see hospitality as a career and not just a job,” Onuoha said. “The same way people are passionate to be trained as medical doctors, engineers or lawyers, is also how it should apply in hospitality.”

The hotel’s commitment to gender equality is evident in its policies and practices. “We have created a conducive environment for women to thrive,” Onuoha said. “We have a nursery for working mothers and a supportive management team.”

As part of its efforts to celebrate International Women’s Day, Continental Hotels Group is organizing a full week of celebration for its female staff members. The hotel group is rolling out the drums to celebrate the women, with activities including health talks, entertainment, sports, and parties.

Onuoha’s advice to young women seeking career opportunities in the hospitality industry is to be passionate and dedicated. “They should not see it as a job, but as a career,” she said. “They should be willing to learn and take on new challenges.”

In conclusion, Continental Hotels Group, she maintained is leading the way in recognizing the contributions of women in the hospitality industry.
