In a determined effort to enhance healthcare infrastructure in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA), the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Chidinma Oreh, alongside the Executive Chairman of ONELGA, Hon. Prince Isaac Umejuru, and Vice Chairman, Lady Heoma Sarah Nwokocha-Izidor, conducted an inspection of the ongoing reconstruction of the General Hospital in Omoku.
The inspection, is focused on assessing the progress of the renovation, a flagship healthcare project that seeks to restore the hospital to a fully functional state.
Dr. Oreh, visibly impressed with the progress, reiterated the state government’s commitment to completing the project on schedule. She highlighted the need to strengthen healthcare delivery across Rivers State, noting that facilities like the General Hospital, Omoku, play a pivotal role in providing accessible and quality healthcare to the people.
“Rivers State is committed to expanding its healthcare capacity. This reconstruction project in Omoku is a key part of that vision, ensuring the people of ONELGA and surrounding communities have access to modern, high-quality medical care,”
Hon. Prince Isaac Umejuru, who has made healthcare a priority in his administration, expressed continued support to ensure the project is completed within the stipulated timeline. “Our administration is resolute in ensuring that the health and well-being of ONELGA residents are safeguarded. This hospital will not only serve our people but will also be a beacon of healthcare excellence in the region,” he remarked.
The Vice Chairman, Lady Heoma Sarah Nwokocha-Izidor, stressed that the hospital’s reconstruction is in line with the administration’s broader goals of developing ONELGA’s infrastructure to improve the quality of life for its residents.
During the inspection, the team was given a tour of the facility by project contractors, who assured them that the hospital would be outfitted with modern medical equipment and services, including a maternity unit, emergency care, diagnostic facilities, and outpatient services.
The reconstruction of the General Hospital, Omoku, is seen as a critical step towards addressing healthcare challenges in ONELGA, and residents have lauded the initiative as a long-awaited solution to access to more medical services in the area.
This inspection highlights the collaboration between the state and local governments, signaling a renewed focus on healthcare development across Rivers State.
The General Hospital is expected to open its doors to the public upon completion, providing more access to medical care.
