Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has pledged its commitment to support the free school initiative by New Liberty (Free) School in the Ikota, Lekki area of Lagos. The move, which is in line with the Company’s efforts to continuously make contributions of immense impact to its host communities as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility activities, was made known at a programme tagged Read-a-Thon organised by the school to promote reading culture amongst pupils.
In a statement signed by the General Manager, Corporate Communications of the Company, Godwin Idemudia who described the move as one of many gestures of the Company to identify with the communities within its operational network and work towards assisting them.
He said “The gesture was out of our own commitment to be supportive in terms of giving back to our society as social philanthropy ranks high among our top objectives. We do not want to be an organisation that will only take from our people and do not give back in return. Like the popular saying, education is the bedrock of national development and we are committed to contributing our own quota towards the development of our citizens and the nation at large.”
The Managing Director/CEO of Eko Disco, Engr. Adeoye Fadeyibi who was one of the volunteers at the event read a book titled “The Famous Five” by Enid Blyton to the pupils of Basic six and encouraged them to imbibe the reading culture as it will help them in the future.
The administrator of the school, Fehintola Toki, in her heartfelt response, expressed gratitude on behalf of the school to the Company for supporting the initiative.
New Liberty Primary School is a school established to provide free primary education to students in the underserved community in Ikota, Lekki, Lagos.
