The Acting Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Mohammed Bello-Koko said the various reforms executed by the Federal Government including the port concession exercise has led to increased efficiency at the port.
Speaking in Lagos on Monday when he received members of the Senate Committee on Privatisation and Commercialisation who visited NPA, Bello-Koko said the port reform has led to “reduced cargo dwell time, improvement in cargo throughput, ship turnaround time and drastic reduction in security incidents within and around the port environs”.
The acting NPA Managing Director also reiterated the commitment of the agency to the enthronement of international standards and best practice in the handling of ships and cargo in all seaports in the country.
He called for “better synergy with Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and other agencies of government involved in the examination and clearance of cargo” to further drive efficiency in port operations.
He solicited the intervention of the committee on efforts to end the perennial traffic gridlock on the port access roads.
Earlier, the Chairman of the committee, Senator Theodore Orji, assured that the committee would work with the NPA management “to resolve all bottlenecks militating against ease of doing business at the ports.”
