The Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer GMD/CEO of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has harped on the importance of technology and innovation to the survival of contemporary business organization and therefore task NNPC staff on the need to generate new idea that will align the company the present day reality in the petroleum industry.
Kyari noted this in a retreat organized by the company’s Research, Technology & Innovation (RTI) division in Abuja, he said the survival of NNPC as a limited liability company will depend majorly on the innovative ability of the workforce.
The NNPC helmsman reiterated the need to develop a culture of innovation where people are allowed to make propositions and improve on processes and speak out freely. He added that a culture of innovation can be entrenched without leaning on technology.
Kyari stated thus, “This company must come with a culture of innovation so that people are allowed to make proposition with the definition of things and improve on processes and say when things are wrong so that we can improve better. That way we can now become the world class company that we have potentials of becoming. Without innovation, every company will die. Today, the number of companies that are going down are the companies that refuse to adjust.”
Also speaking at the event, the Group Executive Director, Ventures and Business Development, Dr. Billy Okoye, was of the view that NNPC was looking forward to RTI to chat a new course for the growth of the NNPC business in tandem with global reality.
He posited that the retreat will provide an insightful perspective that will ship the evolution of the NNPC Limited into a company that Nigerians will be proud of. “What we can we do practically to move NNPC forward with technology, we must innovate to get NNPC to the next level.
On her part, the Chief Innovation Officer (CIO), Mrs. Betty Ugona urged participants to focus on key prioties of energy transition with particular focus on NNPC business sustainability.
According to Ugona, the new NNPC with the backing of the PIA is focused on innovation towards the demonstration of extended energy forms away from fossil fuel via technology that have the potentials to outperform the current market leaders.

The NNPC CIO submitted that innovation was a watchword of every corridor in today’s business while expressing delights that NNPC through the RTI was not going to be left behind.
She spoke more on the recent innovative initiatives by RTI. “We have also fully deployed monitoring systems for NMSL and I hope each and every one of us has key in to use this opportunity to give our feedback on the kind of services we are getting from NMSL.”
NNPC has prototyped two wonderful projects. The company has converted tricycle also known as ‘keke’ to the use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). It also working on developing tricycle to be powered by solar.
