In the global map, the African region is increasingly becoming a powerhouse for global economic growth, driven by its rich natural resources and growing appetite for innovation and investment.
These were the words of Ade Yesufu, Exhibition Manager, Energy Portfolio – MEA, Informa Markets at his welcome address during the Nigeria Energy Exhibition & Conference in Lagos with the theme: ‘Breaking Barriers in the New Energy Era.’
Yesufu spoke at the opening ceremony that the conference has evolved significantly over the years, in tandem with the energy sector’s changing dynamics. Being in the market for 11 years, the event has adapted to these new realities of global conversations on sustainability, energy transition, and climate change.
He stated further that across this dynamic region, energy markets are transforming at an unprecedented pace.
“In recent years, we’ve shifted our focus to reflect the growing importance of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and the digitalization of the energy sector. We’ve integrated discussions on solar, wind, hydropower, and off-grid solutions, which are increasingly vital for addressing energy access and sustainability challenges in Nigeria and Africa at large. The introduction of topics like green financing, energy storage technologies, and policy frameworks for sustainable growth has also brought fresh relevance to the event.”
The Informa Markets boss was of the view that this year, it has deeply rooted, in navigating the complexities of the clean energy transition, primarily focusing on policy and investment, which is a catalyst to drive a sustainable energy future.
The Nigeria Energy Leadership Summit focuses on policy framework, exploring imperative policies that stimulate renewable energy development, streamline regulatory processes that will ensure seamless grid integration.
Investment attraction is key to the energy sector including transition to clean energy demands. The conference will delve into strategies to attract both domestic and foreign capital, forging partnerships between policymakers, utilities, investors, and industry experts.
It addresses specific technological and infrastructure challenges that impede clean energy transition in West Africa. Issues such as limited grid capacity need for innovative energy storage solutions, and development of affordable and reliable energy technologies were at the forefront of discussions.
Yesufu noted that overarching goal is to identify practical solutions, foster collaboration, and accelerate the region’s transition to a clean energy future.
“The Nigeria Energy Leadership Summit serves as a platform for dialogue, knowledge sharing, and collaboration among key stakeholders. By fostering open discussions, we aim to create a conducive environment for policy development, investment attraction, and technology adoption in the renewable energy sector. The conference will serve as a catalyst for progress, driving economic growth, energy security, and environmental sustainability in the region.”
According to Yesufu, the gas sector plays an indispensable role in Nigeria’s overall energy mix. As a significant natural gas producer, Nigeria has the potential to leverage its gas resources to drive economic growth, improve energy security, and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Gas-to-power solutions offer a promising avenue to harness this potential.
The conference will advance latest innovations with the aim to bring together leading gas players who play an important role in the energy value chain. Participants will have the opportunity to network with industry experts, explore new business avenues, and contribute to a more resilient energy future in Nigeria.
“As Nigeria works towards its energy transition goals, the conference will increasingly highlight innovative solutions that drive efficiency, clean energy adoption, and smart infrastructure. We plan to foster more partnerships between governments, investors, and technology providers to accelerate the transition. The future growth of the event lies in its ability to serve as a platform where industry leaders, innovators, and policymakers come together to shape the future of energy not only in Nigeria but across West Africa.”
He appreciated the Federal Ministry of Power for its support of the event including Lagos State Government and other industry sponsors of the conference.
