Mr. Akinwande Oluseye Ekun
Akinwande Oluseye Ekun has been conferred with the Fellowship Award of the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (FNMGS).
Mr. Ekun waselected to the Class of Fellows of the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Societyat 257th Meeting of the Society held on 18 January 2025.
Mr. Ekun was conferred with the prestigious award during the 60th Annual International Conference and Exhibition of the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS), held at the Chida International Hotel Utako in Abuja, from February 16 to 21, 2025. This recognition and conferment took place on the Awards Night, on Wednesday, February 19, 2025,a highlight of the conference.
The NMGS Fellowship Award is a distinguished and highly coveted honor, bestowed upon exceptional individuals who have made significant and far-reaching contributions to the field of geosciences, as well as demonstrated remarkable dedication and service to the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society.
Since its inception in 1960, the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS) has stood as a cornerstone of the global scientific community. Founded on a mission to advance geological knowledge, promote responsible and sustainable miningand geosciences practices and uphold exceptional professional standards, NMGS remains committed to these core principles, driving progress and excellence in the fields of mining and the geosciences.
Akinwande Oluseye Ekun is a graduate of Geology of the University of Ibadan where he obtained his B.Sc. Geology degree from the University of Ibadan in 1995 and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Lagos state University in 2005 . He is a highly experienced and consummate oil & gas professional with cognate experience spanning over 29 years in Exploration, Appraisal, Development, Geological & Geophysical Operations, Well Planning etc. and technical leadership roles.
Seye is currently Manager, Field Development and Production Engineering for Chevron Nigeria Limited, Lagos, Nigeria responsible for innovative, creative, cost-effective and efficient ways of moving resources to reserves to production(R2R2P) and production optimization. Prior to his current role, he was Exploration Geosciences Manager for Chevron based in Houston, Texas overseeing exploration portfolio rejuvenation through development of robust exploration queue of opportunities.
Seye is also a distinguished Fellow of the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) – an award conferred on him during the43rd NAPE Annual International Conference and Exhibition (AICE) in November 2024. Prior to this he was recognized and conferred with the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG)’s Distinguished Service Award (DSA) in Houston Texas, USA, August 2023. He is an active and consistent financial member of NAPE since 1999, NMGS since 2003, licensed geologist by the Nigerian Council of Mining and Geosciences (COMEG) since 2003, AAPG since 2000 and Nigerian Association ofEnergy Economists (NAEE) since 2024.
He is a member of Divisional Professional Affairs (DPA) of AAPG and a Certified Petroleum Geologist (CPG). He has played and continues to play active roles in various capacities such as: Key member of the first ever Geoscience Technology Workshop in Africa (GTW) co-hosted by AAPG and Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) in 2018, Conference Planning Committee for Deep Water Offshore west Africa conference (DOWAC) 3rd edition in 2010; Member AAPG Africa Region Executive Leadership Team – Treasurer 2020 – 2022, Panelist AAPG/Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) session at NAPE International Conference and Exhibition (ICE) 2018 & 2019, Chair/Co-Chair/Judge AAPG/Imperial Barrel Award (IBA) Program 2014, 2015, & 2018.
Mr. Ekun has demonstrated exceptional leadership, successfully chairing the last five editions of NAPE’s prestigious Management Sessions, which take place during the Association’s Annual International Conference and Exhibition, yielding outstanding outcomes.
He also served as a key member in conceptualizing, planning, and execution of the highly successful AAPG/NAPE inaugural Geosciences Technology Workshop in 2018 with over 800 participants. Seye served as the Chairman/coordinator of AAPG/IBA Program (2010 – 2013) with significant positive impact in the training of undergraduate, postgraduate and faculty members. He grew the IBA universities participation from an average of 4-6 schools to 22+ schools representing 450% uplift with wide geographical spread involving over 1000+ students and faculty members. The success of this program led to the adoption by NAPE and creation of the annual NAPE Basin evaluation competition.
He served as an industry mentor to AAPG/IBA Africa region participating teams in 2009 – 2010 and several undergraduates and postgraduates’ students for the IBA programs and their respective research dissertations and theses.
Seye has authored/co-authored several geosciences technical papers presented at NAPE AICE, Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), Society of Wireline Log Analysts (SPWLA), and published in several international journals. Seye in collaboration with senior professionals in the oil and gas industry co-authored the first ever NAPE Memoir 01 titled: “Niger Delta; Geological Evolution of Basin Fill, Petroleum Systems, Concepts, Technology Integration, and Mega-Fields Case Studies” published by AA Holdings in November 2024. He won NAPE 3rd Best Technical Poster Award in 2014 and 3rd Best Technical Paper Award in 2021 respectively.
