Smiles went to the faces of gas producers as President Bola Tinubu has approved backlog of debt owed to them since 2011.
The good news was disclosed to gas producers in a stakeholders’ meeting by the Minister State for Gas, Ekperikpe Ekpo.
In his words: “You appointed me your minister and I came into office, I inherited a debt in the decade of gas and when you charge me to ensure that we have increase in the flow of gas, I have been working around the clock to see how we can achieve that.”
“But today as a father, I approach you that we have a group of industry players who are the gas producers that have been owed some monies so many years now starting from 2011 and today you have graciously as a father to make sure you grow the sector, you encourage the private sector.”
According to the Minister the private sector will work with government to succeed. The President approved a repayment plan for the debt that has been owed to these gas producers which is significant to make progress in the sector.
“Now I believe those in the decade of gas will go home smiling that the President has looked at their own direction and when next am sharing the meeting, I will be able to speak very authoritatively that the president has encouraged me to do the needful. Thank you very much Mr. President.”
