Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, of Lagos State has commended members of the Crude Oil Refinery Owners Association of Nigeria (CORAN), for consistently championing the cause of domestic refining and fostering partnerships across the value chain.

The Governor was represented by the Commissioner for Energy Resources, Bolaji Ogunleye.

Sanwo-Olu stated that through CORAN advocacy, it has brought to the fore challenges facing the sector and Nigerian refiners have a collective voice.

“I particularly applaud your efforts in ensuring that Nigeria moves towards self-sufficiency in petroleum product refining. Your role in shaping the future of this industry is vital, and today’s summit is a testament to your unwavering dedication.”

The Governor made it known that the theme of the summit: “Making Nigeria a Net Exporter of Petroleum Products” reflects one of the most pressing and transformative goals of Nigeria and need to harness the country’s immense potential in oil and gas sector to not only meet local demand but to emerge as a global supplier of refined petroleum products.

Sanwo-Olu applauded the government, stakeholders including Aliko Dangote who reflected the magnitude of collective mission to built refineries.

“I am confident that the discussions of the summit will inspire new ideas, foster stronger partnerships, and set a course toward making Nigeria a true net exporter of petroleum products.”

The Governor said Lagos is the economic powerhouse of Nigeria.

“I am acutely aware of the central role Lagos plays in driving the nation’s industrial and energy sectors. Our state has consistently demonstrated its capacity for innovation and leadership in creating an environment where businesses can thrive, and where strategic partnerships, like the one between government and key industry stakeholders, can flourish. This partnership is important especially in the context of today’s discussions.

We are at a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s economic journey, one where increasing refining capacity is not only essential for reducing our reliance on imported petroleum products but also for positioning Nigeria as a significant player in the global energy market. This will, in turn, stimulate job creation, enhance foreign exchange earnings, and reinforce our collective efforts toward economic diversification.”

The Governor reiterated Lagos State commitment to supporting CORAN’s vision through initiatives that enhance infrastructure, logistics, and regulatory framework needed to encourage investment in the energy and refining sectors.

“The Dangote Refinery, located right here in Lagos, stands as a shining example of the possibilities that lie ahead when vision meets the right conditions for success. The refinery’s impact on Nigeria’s energy landscape is proof of what can be achieved with determination, investment, and collaboration” the Governor stated.
