Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) said that the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) has not been in operation since June 2022 and undergoing tests.
This is as the Dutch oil multinational has experienced two leaks in close proximity to the Trans Niger Pipeline in Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State within 21 days.
Speaking on the development, the company who confirmed the leaks, said it was working with regulators and host community to investigate the fresh oil spills.
Shell Spokesperson, Mr. Michael Adande said owing to constant breaches by oil thieves, the TNP has been undergoing tests with water flushing.
In his word: “We are working with regulators and local community to investigate the reported incident. The TNP is undergoing tests with water main flushing after injections stopped in mid-June 2022 owing to constant breaches by crude oil thieves.”
Meanwhile, there was a protest on Thursday by the people of Bodo community in Ogoni, as they took to the streets in disapproval against a fresh oil spill from SPDC in their community.
MOSOP President, Fegalo Nsuke, said it was shocking that a fresh oil spill occurred on Shell’s facility in just three weeks after a burst pipe spilt crude into the same community from the same Shell’s facility.
